About this Event

Steeped in her Vietnamese-American heritage, San Francisco-based jazz and blues vocalist Thu Ho weaves jazz, blues, Latin jazz, and world music into one unforgettable afternoon of song - joined by Grammy-winning pianist John Proulx and celebrated San Diego/LA bassist Mackenzie Leighton.
Having trained in jazz, Broadway, classical, and R&B, Thu's voice carries a rare blend of power, clarity, richness, depth, and warmth. She has performed throughout California, New York, Nashville, and internationally, including the historic Birdland Jazz Club NYC, Pangea NYC, Williamsburg Music Center, Dzalbay Cantina (Mexico), NAMM, Rudy's Jazz Room, House of Blues San Diego, Humphreys Backstage Live, Black Cat SF, and SFJAZZ Center. Thu has worked with ensembles led by Victor Wooten and the Wooten Brothers, internationally acclaimed saxophonist Joe Lovano, legendary drummer Akira Tana, and San Francisco's premiere modern jazz ensemble Jazz Mafia, and served as featured vocalist for the SFJAZZ Monday Night Band from 2017–2020. Her lyrical phrasing and velvety timbre are celebrated in albums recorded with renowned Vietnamese composer Hoàng Quốc Bảo (Khúc Vô Thanh) and master horn player Noel Jewkes (Thu Ho with the Noel Jewkes Trio — Live at the Sausalito Seahorse).John Proulx - Piano
An LA-based Grammy-winning composer, pianist, vocalist, and recording artist, John built his career performing alongside jazz legends Anita O'Day, Natalie Cole, and Melissa Manchester. His Grammy win came when Nancy Wilson recorded his co-written song "These Golden Years" on her album Turned to Blue, which took home Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2007. A holder of both a Bachelor's in Jazz Piano Performance and a Master's in Jazz Vocal Performance, John brings a rare dual mastery of the instrument and the voice to every performance.
Mackenzie Leighton - Bass
One of Southern California's most sought-after sidemen, Mackenzie Leighton is celebrated for his versatility, solid groove, and technical prowess, having performed with jazz legends Pat Metheny, Donald Brown, and Geoffrey Keezer. He has appeared at the Carlsbad Music Festival, Ensenada Jazz Festival, Tijuana Jazz and Blues Festival, and Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines, and currently serves as director of the Jazz Ensemble at CSU San Marcos.Presented in English and Vietnamese • Được trình bày bằng tiếng Anh và Việt
