This Christmas, step into the heart of Buxton for a series of special events celebrating local music, drama, crafts and more. From festive performances to hands-on activities, each event invites you to take part, watch or simply listen, everyone is welcome.
Most events run from 4–6pm, are completely free, and suitable for all ages. Along the way, you’ll find opportunities to purchase refreshments and gifts, but there’s absolutely no obligation to do so.
Each participating building or shop has a unique story to share. As you explore, discover Buxton’s heritage through windows that come alive with creativity and community spirit.
Please note: some venues may be small or have steps. We’re working with partners to make events as accessible as possible, and volunteers will be on hand to assist.
Join Buxton’s Spoken Word Group for a warm and welcoming evening of festive verse, storytelling, and heartfelt performances. This vibrant collective of local poets and performers celebrates the power of words to connect, inspire, and bring the community together through spoken word art.
The event takes place at The New Inn on the Market Place, a charming Grade II listed Georgian building originally established as the New Sun Hotel in 1800. Recently restored by Emma and Matt Blackwood, who reopened the venue in November 2024, The New Inn offers a perfect blend of historic character and fresh, upmarket atmosphere.
Guests can enjoy cosy seating by the open fire, relax in the snug tucked behind the bar, and savour locally sourced ales and wines alongside small plates, sharing boards, and hearty bar snacks. The New Inn is also dog- and walker-friendly, making it an ideal spot for a festive pause.
No booking is required, simply drop in to experience the warmth of community, culture, and celebration through the spoken word.
