Step back to the elegant spa town of Georgian Buxton and come face to face with Mr J. Jaggard, Master Surgeon (of Up an' at 'em History) — ready to demonstrate his remarkable (and sometimes alarming!) surgical skills from a time before modern medicine. (These will be at 11.30am and 2.30pm)
Watch as Mr Jaggard explains his tools and techniques, revealing how the people of Buxton sought healing long before anaesthetic or antiseptic were known.
Then, meet other characters throughout the day from Georgian life:
💧 The Well Woman, offering you a taste of Buxton’s world-famous water cure and its promise of health and vitality.
🧹 The Footman of the Cavendish household, sharing stories of the daily duties that kept the grand homes of the town running smoothly and see some of the items used.
Discover the people, practices, and places that made Buxton a centre of Georgian health and refinement.
Come see history spring to life — Through Georgian Eyes.
Free entry event, however donations on the day will be accepted to support the charitable activities of the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust
During the evening will be a ticketed talk by Mr J Jaggard who will be going more in depth about the life and role of the Georgian Surgeon.
