The final part of Krzysztof Kieślowsk's trilogy of films based around the colours of the French flag. Red is for fraternity and explores two characters with apparently little in common gradually but whose lives become increasingly interconnected. Part-time model Valentine (Irène Jacob) meets a retired judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant) after she runs over his dog. Later, when she discovers him listening in on his neighbours' phone conversations Valentine is outraged, but her debates with the judge over his behavior soon leads them to form a strange bond."...an almost supernatural contrivance: brooding on coincidence, fate and the insoluble mystery of other people’s lives..." Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian.
Dir. Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1994, Poland/France/Switzerland, 99 minutes, Cert: 15. In French with English subtitles.
