This is a Haunted House*
The original concept for Quarantine’s immersive haunted houses was hatched from a group of students (including Flynn and Rutherford) in UNM’s Theatre department in the early 2000s. Since then, there have been several different storylines, but this is the first year we’re in a literal haunted house. Both co-directors have been involved in past productions with the evolving company, but this is their first year taking on the role as directors. Herrera and Rutherford met in an improv comedy class at The Box several years ago and have gone on to work together on several different projects since then. Both have a strong comedy background, including stand-up, improv, and acting, which plays into the comedy/horror crossover of “This is a Haunted House.” It’s a unique experience for audiences, who are not just passively watching a show, but actually play a role in the show itself. Our goal is to make guests alternate between laughing hysterically and screaming hysterically as many times as we can in half an hour. And for those who want to take the experience even further, we have two special blood-bath splash nights.
