Things I say when I teach: Neil Goldberg and Friends

“It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.” It’s a line from Dolly Parton that artist Neil Goldberg finds himself saying in every course he teaches. For this program, Neil brings together a multigenerational, multidisciplinary group of artists to explore the references, metaphors, anecdotes, aphorisms, riffs, and bits they find themselves returning to in their teaching. In a shared conversation with all present, they’ll reflect on humor, improvisation, vulnerability, self-reflection, and other approaches to teaching as an expressive, responsive exchange.

About the artist: Neil Goldberg is a NYC-based visual artist and writer whose work focuses on embodiment, sensing, mortality, and the everyday. He was a resident faculty at Skowhegan in 2015 and has been a member of its Board of Governors since 2017. He’s a Senior Critic at Yale, where he’s taught since 2013.
