Create your very own historic theorem painting while discovering the beauty and charm of this cherished Colonial art form, which flourished in New England during the late eighteenth century. Under the guidance of guest instructor Peggy Allen, an experienced Early American Interpreter and theorem artist, participants will recreate an 8x10" portrait of a Distelfink bird, a beloved Pennsylvania German symbol of good fortune and happiness.
Using oil paints, cotton velveteen, and pre-cut stencils, you’ll learn traditional theorem painting techniques step by step. The workshop includes a short practice session, an overview of the historical context of theorem art, and a display of paintings by various artists to provide inspiration. No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided.
Participants will leave with their own completed piece of Early American artistry, perfect to display in your home or give as a meaningful handmade gift. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
Cost:
$50 for BHC Members
