Blair County, PA is full of hidden history around every corner! While some of this obscure history is tucked away in more remote areas, much of it can actually be seen in areas that are heavily traveled. We plan on exploring the forgotten past of one such area during this year's local bus tour event, as we will uncover the hidden history of Altoona's Sixth Avenue corridor!
Join us for this year's Then and Now: Historical Bus Tours led by Dr. Michael Farrow on Sunday, September 20! As mentioned above, this year's bus tour will highlight the history of Sixth Avenue here in Altoona, PA. This tour will explore the hidden history of various homes, businesses, and schools that have existed along this area, including the Fish Bowl Inn, the old Grand Hotel, and Elias Baker's original grist mill site. Simply put, you will be amazed by just how rich Sixth Avenue's history is!
Like last year, we have expanded this event into two separate time slots. The first bus tour will take place at 1:00 PM, and the second tour will follow at 3:30 PM. Guests will meet at the Baker Mansion to begin each tour and head out on the bus from there.
Tickets are $35.00 per guest, and this cost includes a complimentary tour book filled with rare photographs of Sixth Avenue history and additional information. These can be purchased now by visiting our website at www.blairhistory.org/events or calling us at 814-942-3916. Each time slot has a limit of 25 guests, so grab your tickets soon before they run out!
As always, our Then and Now: Historical Bus Tours are sponsored by our friends from AMTRAN, Altoona, PA!
