'Totnes' own Cecil Humphreys battles wild dogs, Roman legions and imposter syndrome while starring as Jewish Gladiator Caleb in the BBC's 80's Biblical-Roman epic mini series, 'AD - Anno Domini'. This one man show takes us on a journey that begins in Exeter and ends on the red carpet in Los Angeles via ten months gruelling, thrilling filming in Tunisia.
Forced to step up, mentally and physically, he overcomes imposter syndrome, major and minor injuries, learning the art of screen acting in front of the camera. A camel driver teaches him how to use a biblical slingshot, Italian stuntmen how to fight with a net-and-trident. There are movie stars and there are beasts - including a pack of slavering Neapolitan Mastiffs that he must finally confront in a two-thousand-year-old coliseum.
Join him for the glitz and the glamour, the hardships and the heights, the love affairs and the heartbreaks. There will be photos and film clips as Cecil tells of his wild life during… The Year of the Gladiator.
