The Barrel House Ballroom & The Black Bird Collective are delighted to welcome back the one and only EMILY BREEZE for a gig on International Women's Day 2025.Sultry art-pop from Avon’s premiere social commentary chanteuse Emily Breeze, dripping with spoken word sarcasm and rousing torch song choruses. She’s a queen in our world. Essential FFO: Pulp, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, Rita Lynch, Baxter Dury.
Emily Breeze is one of the UK’s long standing underground/cult artists. Known for her distinct brand of pop noir which combines a punk attitude, powerful performance and a dark sense of humor. She has been described as “The love child of P.J Harvey and Johnny Cash” (The Sunday Times), “A Lou Reed/Trent Reznor hybrid”, (NME) and “The Poet laureate of glamorous wastrels” (Clash).
A BBC Radio 6 regular, other highlights include being awarded the PRS Women Make Music grant, performing on Radio 4’s Loose Ends with Clive Anderson, supporting James and Sleaford Mods, a Daddy G (Massive Attack) remix, collaborating with Rat Scabies (The Damned) and regular sell out shows in her hometown of Bristol.
The sound ranges from gothic disco to swooning, psychedelic torch songs and post punk explosions which are beautifully illustrated by her all star band.
Emily’s great Uncle is the Irish rebel/writer Brendan Behan and the literary influence is apparent in her knack for story telling and poetic spoken word lyrics which range from confessional to surreal and have earned her the title of “The UK’s answer to Patti Smith” (Tom Robinson BBC Radio 6).
“Immaculately twisted post punk glamor, hot blooded, razor tongued and hilariously sharp”
“The love child of P.J Harvey and Johnny Cash” - The Sunday Times .
“The UK’s 21st century answer to Patti Smith performing deeply personal lyrics over grooving post punk rock n roll” - Tom Robinson BBC6
“Torch song tragedy, swathed in black humor” (Mojo Magazine)
“A Trent Reznor/Lou Reed hybrid” (NME)
“As vital a statement on what it is to be alive as any of the more celebrated, male bands currently garnering all the praise” - Louder Than War
