The Wisdom Keeper Within | A 3-Day In-Person Retreat with Bob Vetter
About this Event
"I've done the therapy. I've done the work. So why do I feel like I'm standing at a door I haven't opened?"
If you know that feeling, the sense that healing has carried you somewhere real but there is still something past it you cannot quite name, this retreat is for you.
There comes a season when the questions turn inward. When you stop asking what you should do and begin asking who you have become. This is a three-day retreat for that season.
We gather at The N.E.S.T. in Woodstock, New York, from August 28 to 30, 2026. A small circle. Unhurried days. The kind of attention that lets something settle.
I have spent decades learning from traditional elders who treated wisdom not as something you collect but as something you live. They taught by presence more than instruction. This retreat carries that same spirit. We slow down. We listen. We remember what we already carry.
You will leave with a clearer sense of your own path and the quiet authority to walk it.
Who this is for
Anyone who senses there is more they are meant to carry forward.
About Bob Vetter
Bob Vetter is a cultural anthropologist, healer, and mentor who has spent more than three decades working at the intersection of traditional healing practices and personal transformation.
His path has been shaped by years of study across many healing traditions and by direct time with elders and practitioners in traditional communities, an approach that honors both lineage and the development of each person's own way.
Rather than teaching a single method, Bob guides people in bringing together what they have lived and learned into a way of working that feels grounded, authentic, and their own.
Choosing your place in the circle
The N.E.S.T. holds to the Green Bottle philosophy, a fair-exchange approach so that cost need not be the barrier to being here. The retreat is the same for everyone. Choose the tier that is honest for you.
Community Exchange — $975 (supported by your peers)
Supporters Exchange — $1,175 (covers your true cost)
Sustainers Exchange — $1,375 (helps sustain a Community Exchange place for someone else)
What is included
Two nights of camping or a comfortable pad or cot in our community sleepspace, the Nest Down Under, is included with your place. If you would like a room of your own, private and semi-private accommodations can be added.
Agenda
Friday evening — entering the story
Info: We begin with Narrative Medicine, the practice of meeting your own life as a story rather than a problem to solve. Through teaching, traditional tales, and small-group plática, each person begins to name the deeper thread that brought them here.
Saturday morning — pilgrimage and the land
Info: The day opens with a ceremonial walk into the landscape around The N.E.S.T. We enter the land with reverence rather than as observers, in a ceremony of connection with the energies of the Earth. On our way back, after leaving appropriate offerings, we gather natural elements that speak to us. These, alongside meaningful objects you bring from home, become a group altar that holds the weekend's intentions.
Saturday afternoon — the story that wants to change
Info: Before fire, there is preparation. In a guided process, each person identifies a story, pattern, or belief that is ready to be released, and finds the deeper medicine inside it. This is not only letting go. It is reclaiming what was buried in the difficulty. By the end of the session, you have something real to bring to the fire, and something to carry forward.
Saturday night — the fire ceremony
Info: Fire carries an alchemical power nothing else does. What goes into fire does not come back the way it went in. Across cultures, healers have worked directly with this, not as metaphor, but as medium. What we do this night draws from the tradition of fire work and limpia, ceremonial cleansing. Through drumming, song, and prayer, the circle moves into a space where real healing becomes possible. Each person, in their own way, brings what no longer serves them and offers it to the fire, often with a tobacco offering, in their own words. Everyone present receives healing in this circle. And three people will step into the center to receive a more direct ceremonial healing, a deeper encounter, held by the rest of the group. The group's presence is part of the medicine. This is active ceremonial healing work, in a tradition older than any of us. We do it together, in the dark, with intention.
Sunday morning — listening after the fire
Info: The morning is quieter. We gather in plática to reflect on what shifted overnight, share dreams and images, and listen to what is now present. A guided inner journey deepens contact with what is emerging.
Sunday midday — becoming a wisdom keeper
Info: I offer teaching on what it means to become a wisdom keeper. Not someone who has all the answers, but someone who has learned how to listen, to their own life, to others, and to the deeper currents that guide us. You are then guided to craft your own Medicine Story, a reframed, empowered telling of what you have lived and what you now carry forward.
Sunday afternoon — speaking the medicine
Info: Each person shares their Medicine Story within the group, practicing the act of speaking from presence and lived experience. We close by exploring how this medicine moves into ordinary life, into relationships, work, creativity, and quieter ways of being.
