The William Tucker 1624 Society presents A Jazz Night Out

The William Tucker 1624 Society is hosting its 5th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser, “A Jazz Night Out” on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hampton, 1700 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, Virginia, as part of our African Landing Commemoration Weekend events.

The event will feature live entertainment by J Baxter & JAM, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and door prizes.

All proceeds will go directly to scholarships for deserving students in Virginia Public Schools. Your donation will bring us one step closer to meeting our goal of distributing $10,000 in scholarships in 2027.

The William Tucker 1624 Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is an organization dedicated to the education of the greater public about the first Africans to arrive in Virginia.

Please note: While we were initially advertising Djimon Hounsou’s attendance at Friday evening’s “A Jazz Night Out,” his schedule does not allow us to confirm his appearance at this time. We apologize for any disappointment, but are pleased that he is still expected to join us for as many of the African Landing Commemoration Weekend events as his schedule allows.
