Most Australians are welcome in New Zealand. Wallabies? Not so much.
Join us for an engaging evening exploring one of New Zealand's most persistent pest animal challenges. Wallabies are causing significant damage to native forests, farmland, and biodiversity across the central North Island.
We'll hear from local experts about the past, present, and future of wallaby management. Bay of Plenty Regional Council Biosecurity Officer, Dale Williams, will cover the history of wallabies in New Zealand, their impacts, current control efforts, and whether eradication is within reach. Tim Day will share research aimed at closing knowledge gaps and improving the tools and techniques used to detect, monitor, and manage wallabies.
Whether you're interested in conservation, pest management, farming, forestry, or just curious about these unexpected Australian immigrants, this promises to be an interesting discussion.
Come along, grab a drink, meet like minded locals, and learn how New Zealand is tackling one of its most ambitious pest eradication challenges.
Grab a drink at 5:30. Talk starts at 6pm.
