Grants Pass High School’s Theatre Department presents their Spring Musical: "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," playing for two weekends, March 7th-16th, at the Grants Pass High School Performing Arts Center.“The Unsinkable Molly Brown” tells the true story of Margaret “Call Me Molly” Brown, a turn-of-the-century hero of the underdog, philanthropist, entrepreneur, mother, champion of women’s rights, fighter for labor rights, advocate of immigration reform, and, most famously, survivor of the Titanic.
Our story begins with a spirited young Molly sharing her dream of living in “beautiful Denver.” Her plans are postponed when she falls for JJ Brown, a smart and equally stubborn miner in Leadville, Colorado. Molly finally uproots her family to finally move to Denver when a lucky gold streak turns them into overnight millionaires. But high society is no match for Molly. As she turns the upper crust of Denver upside down, stands with the miners of Leadville, traverses Europe, and famously survives the Titanic, Molly proves her mettle wherever she goes. From rags to riches, Molly Brown tackled big issues and looked out for the little guy, using her personality, platform, and resources to "Share the Luck."
Funny, uplifting, and uniquely American, The show features music and lyrics by the incomparable Meredith Willson (The Music Man), and an updated book by Tony-nominated author Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie) based on the original book by Richard Henry Morris. “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” charmed Broadway and Hollywood with its irresistible, outrageous title role and won over new audiences with this revised version when it premiered in 2020.
We are so proud to announce that Grants Pass High School has been selected as 1 of 16 schools across the country to receive “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” grant! Our show will be among the very first productions of the newly revised version of this 1960 musical. The grant program was provided by the Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF), The Music Man Foundation (TMMF), and Music Theatre International (MTI).
