Welcome to Down Home Weekend at Studio5!
For Day Two of our Down Home Weekend it's all bluegrass, all day. Our evening show pairs an internationally renowned mandolin player Don Stiernberg (in a remarkable ensemble of bluegrass veterans) with the jaw-dropping talent of The Sullivan Sisters, a pair of young artists representing the next generation keeping this glorious music alive. Preceding our Mainstage concert will be an open Bluegrass jam that is free to the public!
4:30-6:30: Pre-show Open Bluegrass Jam. Free to the public – all are welcome!
7:00: THE SULLIVAN SISTERS
8:00: DON STIERNBERG AND THE BLUEGRASSTICS
The Sullivan Sisters have been turning heads since childhood with dazzling bluegrass picking, beautiful sibling harmonies and an irresistible mix of originals, folk classics and blazing instrumentals. Born in North Carolina and now based in Chicago, Soraya and Luciya Sullivan are quickly becoming one of the most exciting young acts in acoustic music, touring nationally, winning competitions and building a devoted following. Joined by fiddler Finn McGuinness, they bring extraordinary musicianship and infectious energy to Studio5.
Mandolin master Don Stiernberg is internationally celebrated for his work in jazz and acoustic music and longtime collaborator of the legendary Jethro Burns. For Down Home Weekend, Don returns to his bluegrass roots with a special all-star ensemble: The Bluegrasstics, featuring Jim Cox, Ben Benedict and Henhouse Prowlers banjoist Ben Wright.
