Randolph County has used the clay stove tile designs found at the Mt. Shepherd pottery site for both the 200th and 250th anniversary logos for the county.
Join us at the #AsheboroPublicLibrary on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:00pm to hear from Tara Logue, master potter and historian from Old Salem, who will talk about the history of tile stoves, their design and construction, and how Jacob Meyer might have used his tile designs to market to new, patriotic buyers.
Tara Logue is a pottery historian and ceramic artist based out of Kernersville, North Carolina. In her eight years at Old Salem Museum and Gardens, Tara worked in several roles, including Director of Education and Lead Potter. Tara has presented at the international conference of the Masonry Heater Association, been featured on the “Things” podcast at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, and worked alongside master potter, Ron Probst, to restore a historical tile stove in the Single Brothers’ House at Old Salem.
