Who is Sandy Cummings? Why go to a concert of hers?
These are questions she has asked herself through the on and off music career, that began in 1969 at the Orchid Bowl in Goleta. After a few year stint, she married and had a family which shifted focus to things other than music. She didn’t hit the stage again, until after her husband’s untimely death in 1998.
At first, they were very small stages, guest sit ins with local artists who remembered her when, and, a few – believed that she had something to say with her music. Growth in the local scene was slow – but… the music filled a place in her that she wanted to share with others.
She loved songs – mostly jazz origin, but… also an occasional pop tune, or country song. Her main love – singing with a jazz trio, telling stories that never go out of fashion. It is one of her passions to reach people in places that they don’t know they want to be reached in, to help them feel the emotion of the melody or the lyric, be they happy or sad. That passion never left her – she still reaches for your insides to connect in this unconnected world.
These are reasons why one should experience this show, this day and at this time.
She will be accompanied by a fabulous collection of jazz artist – her colleagues and friends – the ones who shaped her and taught her how to take some chances – tell her stories through music. And.. to not forget those who cheered her along the way — the ones still playing and those who aren’t with us.
