About the Lobero Theatre
Founded in 1873, the Lobero Theatre is California's oldest continuously operating theater and has long served as the cultural heart of Santa Barbara. After the original theater was lost in the 1925 earthquake, a new Spanish Colonial Revival building was designed by George Washington Smith and Lutah Maria Riggs, completed in 1928. Today, the Lobero remains one of the city's most treasured performing arts venues, celebrated for its elegant architecture, intimate setting, and rich history of presenting world-class music, theater, dance, and community events.
