About this Event
The Rt. Rev. Dr. Nathan D. Baxter Fund for African American Studies 2025 Forum. This forum will consist of three panelists who will review Dr. Catherine Williams's forthcoming book, Preaching and Music: Powerful Partners in Proclamation. The forum will be held on Feb. 27, 2025 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Santee Chapel.
Panelists include:
Dr. Lisa Allen-McLaurin, an Emmy and Webby-award-winning pastor, professor, and public theologian is Associate Dean and Professor of Worship, Music, and Spirituality at Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO). She is an ordained elder and the Coordinator of Practical Ministries for the Sixth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church. She graduated from Millsaps College and the University of Southern Mississippi with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in piano and music education. She also holds the Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
The Rev. Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert is dean of Howard University School of Divinity, professor of homiletics, and founding director of the Black Congregations Resource Center at Howard University. He earned a B.A. from Baylor University and M.Div. and Ph.D. from Princeton Seminary. Dr. Gilbert served congregations in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Kenya, and Maryland. He has authored: Exodus Preaching; A Pursued Justice; The Journey and Promise of African American Preaching; and Just Living.
The Rev. Dr. Dion T. A. Christopher is originally from the Island of Antigua in the Eastern Caribbean. He has served the Moravian Church in St. Kitts, the Moravian Church of Downey in California, and the Moravian Church in the Virgin Islands. He currently serves as Co-Pastor with his wife the Rev. Eulencine Christopher in the South Florida Pastorate which includes: the Prince of Peace, Palm Beach, New Hope, Margate and King of Kings Moravian Churches. He also has oversight of the Moravian Churches in Tampa Sarasota, Jacksonville and Texas.
