Dr. Tone Bleie is a leading advocate for justice, dedicated to advancing the rights of ethnic minorities, Indigenous communities, women, and children. Working at the intersection of public policy, human rights law, cultural history, and innovative practice, she brings decades of experience across Asia—most notably in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Tibet (China). Her long-standing engagement with Nepal, as a practitioner and cultural historian, has made her a significant contributor to lend new historical visibility and agency, in a vast ancient region where surprisingly much is left unanswered about the coexistence between indigenous cultures and early Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity in the Indo-Gangetic and Himalayan Regions.
In her talk, Bleie will expose striking gaps in recent major international exhibitions on early Buddhism and argue why old truths deserve better questions and bolder answers.
