The religious right is waging the most aggressive assault on secular values in a generation — defunding public schools, pushing religion into government, and attacking empathy itself as a weakness and a sin. But the picture isn't all bleak. Efforts to force the Bible into public school classrooms are being defeated in court. The AHA just won a major federal case in Florida. The Congressional Freethought Caucus we helped start is now larger than the Freedom Caucus. And from Minneapolis to Biloxi, humanists are showing what is possible when we show up for our communities.
AHA Executive Director Fish Stark will break down the threats the AHA's legal and policy teams are tracking right now, where the most serious attacks on the First Amendment are coming from, and what humanists can do to fight back — in the courts, in Congress, in the culture, and in our communities.
Fish Stark is the Executive Director of the American Humanist Association and a second-generation humanist. Before joining the AHA, he spent his career at the intersection of psychology, education, and social justice — training and funding youth activists in 140+ countries at Peace First, creating children's mental health products as a tech startup executive, and running a mentorship program for kids in the West Virginia coalfields. Fish holds a Master's in child development and psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor's from Yale. He lives in Annapolis, Maryland, where he holds Democratic Party leadership roles and is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. He is also an award-winning stand-up comedian, so buckle up.

To help with expenses for this event, we suggest a per-person donation for those not already supporting with a recurring monthly donation. That's $5 for local speakers and $10 for out-of-area speakers.
You can sign up for monthly emails with a summary of events. More at https://linktr.ee/cflfreethought
-----
CFFC Educational Events are free and open to the public. Enjoy thought-provoking speakers, local freethought news, state/church activism, volunteer opportunities, and socializing. Come out to meet old friends and make new ones. Coffee and water will be available with snacks served during the social hour after the meeting so plan to stay a while.
CFFC has no membership dues, but we do have recurring expenses that keep the organization running. The largest expense are these monthly meetings (venue, equipment, speaker fees, travel, etc.).
If you share our values, care about the work we do, and find yourself able to contribute, here's a link for you. We love our monthly donors! www.cflfreethought.org/cfldonate
