Background
Come on this walk to find out about Dunfermline-born Moira Shearer’s early life, family home and inspirations on her way to becoming a celebrated dancer and actress, and in 1972, host of the Eurovision Song Contest when it was held at Edinburgh's Usher Hall. As star of 1948's The Red Shoes, for many years she was the most famous ballerina in the world.
The Walk
The walk starts at the bandstand in Dunfermline Public Park and Carnegie Hall before moving along East Port, taking in the former Linen Buildings, Dunfermline Abbey before finishing at St Margaret's Shrine.
This walk should take around 2 hours to complete and involves only one downward hill. Pavements for this walk are reasonably wide and there are no steps, so if people are ok going downhill on New Row this walk can be wheelchair friendly
Accessibility
There is free parking opposite the Public Park at Leys Park Road Car Park. Public toilets are available at the Railway Station at the bottom of the Public Park at the start of the walk and at Abbot House beside Dunfermline Abbey at the end of the walk. There are cafés at both Abbot House and the neighbouring Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Gallery for a sit down upon finishing.
