About this Event
Calling all nature enthusiasts and aspiring environmental scientists. See what the 'buzz' is all about with pollinators at this FREE hands-on, family-friendly workshop with the River Institute and Ontario Power Generation!
Through discussions and outdoor field exploration with River Institute scientists and educators, you'll learn what pollinators are, why they are so important to the local ecosystem, and how you can support healthy pollinator populations at home.
Explore the OPG Visitor Centre Gardens, catch and identify local insects, and check to see if they are pollinators. Get up close with flying insects caught in a Malaise trap and view a variety of specimens under microscopes. You'll also learn about native plants and how they support these important creatures through interactions with the River Institute scientists and educators!
all ages are welcome.
What to expect:
This workshop will make use of the pollinator gardens at the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre. Participants will have the opportunity to catch insects, identify them and engage with River Institute scientists and educators through presentations, group discussions, various field exploration techniques, observations and other event activities.
