The Power of Outdoor Places

Hawai‘i is known for its natural beauty, but we often take for granted the role our environment and access to nature have in shaping our lives and communities.

Join Trust for Public Land (TPL) and Carissa Moore, professional athlete, Native Hawaiian, and Hawai‘i’s first Olympic surfing gold medalist, for a conversation about the power of parks and outdoor places. Together with Bianca Clarke, TPL’s Associate Vice President, Parks Initiative and 10-Minute Walk Program, they will discuss the magic that happens when communities come together to protect, preserve and steward local spaces.

As a leader in equitable access to the outdoors, TPL is committed to connecting everyone to the benefits and joys of the outdoors. We’re working to create more places that bring us all outside—like Honolulu’s ‘A‘ala Park—and making them available and welcoming to everyone, everywhere.

About the Speakers

Carissa Moore is a Native Hawaiian surfer, 5x World Surfing Champion, and an Olympic gold medalist. In 2018, she founded the non-profit organization Moore Aloha, which runs events designed to help girls and women navigate the waves of mental health and wellness through surfing, cultural activities, and mentorship.

Bianca Clarke is Trust for Public Land’s Associate Vice President, Parks Initiative and 10-Minute Walk Program, which focuses on expanding access to outdoor spaces, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of nature close to home.

Māhealani Richardson is the 6 p.m./6:30 p.m. anchor and reporter for Hawai‘i News Now (KHNL, KGMB, K5) and a graduate of Kamehameha Schools.
