The Neighbors of Hughston Planning Committee is inviting everyone in Plano to take part in the Plano Food Fight, a friendly citywide food drive and fundraiser to support families impacted by the government shutdown. Many North Texas families are experiencing delays in SNAP benefits or loss of income. Within the North Texas Food Bank’s (NTFB) 12-county service area, more than 460,000 residents rely on SNAP, and nearly half are children. The NTFB and local pantries are working hard to meet the need, but they cannot do it alone. Together, we can help make sure no child or family in Plano goes hungry.
🥫How to Participate
You can join in one or both of the following ways:
1. Donate Online
• Our virtual food drive, hosted by the North Texas Food Bank, will go live on Monday, November 3.
• Every $1 donated provides 3 meals for neighbors in need.
2. Donate Food
• Drop off your food donations at the North Texas Food Bank, 3677 Mapleshade Ln., Plano, TX 75075.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
• Ask for a weight receipt when dropping off your donation.
• Email a photo of your receipt to [email protected] before Tuesday, November 12, to count your contribution toward the competition.
• If your organization already has a food drive planned or partners with another local pantry or food bank, your donations still qualify as long as you email a weight receipt.
🧾 Eligible Food Items
• Peanut Butter, 16 oz (not mixed with jelly, honey, or chocolate)
• Canned Fruit, 14–16 oz
• Shelf-Stable Milk, 8 oz (not flavored)
• Canned Tuna, 5 oz
• Canned Chicken, 5 oz
• Low-Sodium Canned Vegetables, 15–16 oz
• Trail Mix, 1–2 oz bags
Please do not donate any items in glass containers.
🏆 The Friendly Competition
All donations will count toward one of three zones—East Plano, Central Plano, or West Plano. These zones generally align with the Plano East, Plano Senior, and Plano West senior high school areas, but the competition is open to everyone and not affiliated with the schools.
Recognition will be given to:
• The top zone for total food weight collected
• The top zone for total funds raised
• The top three neighborhoods or organizations within each zone
Winning groups will be recognized on Plano Moms social media, and we hope to share those stories through other local media outlets as well.
💡 Want to Do More?
Neighborhoods, schools, churches, and businesses can create collection hubs to gather donations together. This is optional, but a great way to increase your total impact. Groups that collect 2,000 pounds or more may qualify for an NTFB pickup.
If your organization has questions, ideas, or suggestions to make participation easier, please reach out to [email protected].
Together, Plano can make a big difference. Let’s show what compassion looks like in action.
