We'll cover an extraordinary true story of resistance and heroism in Nazi-occupied France—and the author’s journey to uncover her late grandfather's secret war.

About Ortiz's War
Behind enemy lines in wartime France, American Marine Peter Ortiz blew up Nazi railyards, kept one step ahead of the Gestapo, and braved frigid mountain trails to shuttle downed Allied airmen to safety. Ortiz emerged from World War II with more combat medals than any other member of America's first spy agency, the OSS. Post-war, he worked with John Ford and John Wayne in Hollywood, appearing in more than two dozen films (at times donning his military uniform). His own life story could rival any of them.

Katie S. Sanders is an award-winning journalist who often writes about World War II, military special operations and intelligence, and intergenerational connections. A graduate of Newton South High School andUniversity of Pennsylvania, she has written for National Geographic, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, New York, Washington Post Magazine, Smithsonian, Philadelphia, Marie Claire, Glamour, TIME, and Insider. She recently moved from New York City to Brookline, MA with her husband, sons, and many history books.
Nicholas Reynolds, co-author of Ortiz's War has worked in modern history off and on for 40 years. After earning a PhD from Oxford University, he joined the Marine Corps in the 1970s. As a colonel in the Reserves, he was Officer in Charge of Field History, deploying historians around the world to capture history as it was being made. For many years, he worked at the CIA, most recently as the historian for the CIA Museum. The New-York-Times-bestselling author of the Hemingway biography Writer, Sailor, Soldier, Spy, he has taught at the Naval War College, Johns Hopkins University, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
