The Phil Corfield Band comprises; Phil (songwriting, vocals, rhythm guitar) Carole Stewart (harmony vocals) and John Sule (lead guitar, backing vocals, song arrangements).
Phil started writing songs in 1981 and had early success with a Gold Guitars songwriting award in 1985 and in the same year, with 'The Rag Tag Band', being the first group to play at 'The Brass Monkey Rally' on the strength of the writing and recording of the song 'The Brass Monkey Rally' ('Save Me From Frostbite'). The band played to 4,000 bikers in -10*C.
The brass monkey song was released on '45' and received airplay on Otago and Southland radio stations, and was later made into a video at NZBCs Avalon studio in Wellington. Four albums have been released since then, two with 'The Troubadours of Mercury' and two with 'The Phil Corfield Band'.
The songs combine elements of country, folk, pop and rock and are mainly written from personal experience, drawn from living and working in both New Zealand and Australia. Although Phils songwriting style is heavily influenced by the U.K. and American songs of the 50s 60s and 70s the songs are in most cases identifiably from this part of the world. Two hundred songs have been written to date, and more will be written in the coming years.
The band will be performing a mixture of recent songs and 'golden oldies' and are much looking forward to playing at our home club.
