The People's Forum: Who's Making the Decisions in My Community?
Many of the decisions that shape our daily lives are made by elected officials whose roles we don't fully understand. From schools and public safety to housing, transportation and local taxes, these offices have a direct impact on our communities.
Join Young Black Excellence (YBE) for the first session in The People's Forum: Midterms 2026, a free, nonpartisan community conversation series designed to help Cobb County residents become more informed and engaged citizens.
This first forum, Who's Making the Decisions in my Community?, will explore the responsibilities of city, county and state elected officials, explain how different levels of government work together and provide practical knowledge that will help you better understand the offices you'll see on your ballot.
Whether you're a first-time voter, a longtime resident or simply someone who wants to better understand how government works, you'll leave with greater confidence in navigating the civic process.
During this forum, you'll:
- Learn the roles and responsibilities of city, county and state elected officials.
- Understand how local government decisions affect your everyday life.
- Hear from knowledgeable community leaders and civic voices.
- Ask questions in a respectful, welcoming environment.
- Receive resources to help you stay informed beyond Election Day.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required due to limited seating.
