About this Event
The tour begins in the shared Latino Arts/UCC main lobby, featuring the Hispanic Heritage Center exhibit, which illustrates the history of Milwaukee’s Hispanic/Latino community through dioramas, art, photographs, artifacts, and more. As families walk the tour, they will learn about this history as portrayed in the abundant murals across our 12-block campus—including works by acclaimed muralist Reynaldo Hernandez and collaborative public art created by neighborhood youth, schools, community groups, and residents.
Families will view and learn about murals that include a Latino Arts–led community public art project currently in progress. They will also visit a community-collaboration sculpture garden project, also underway, located across the street from project partner Acosta Middle School. The tour will highlight the history behind neighborhood architecture and landmarks such as the Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Walker’s Square Park.
Mr. Lovo will engage families in discussion about public art and its impact on residents, visitors, and the community. The workshop concludes with Mr. Lovo guiding families in creating sidewalk art inspired by their tour.
