About this Event
Join us for our next discussion with documentary director Alex Piccirillo and the available cast of "The Other Italian Americans" on Wednesday, June 3rd.
Expect an open discussion on the film's genesis and production process, the incredible cast and crew, the complicated politics of Italian American culture, and the ups and downs of shooting an American film in the Sicilian mountain countryside.
Currently in production, Alex's film aims to showcase unique voices that make Italian America beautifully diverse: The "Other" Italian Americans less-represented in mainstream media. Reductive stereotypes are challenged, intra-community conflict is addressed, and the duality of a complicated subculture is explored. Some of the film's goals are to open perspectives, invite discussion, and challenge perceptions of what it means to be Italian American (and importantly, who gets to decide). At the end of the day, the table is long, and there is room for everyone here.
Alex is an independent filmmaker who is making her directorial debut with "The Other Italian Americans". A 25-year veteran in film, lifestyle media, and television, Alex's foray into documentaries began as producer and assistant director on the 2021 documentary feature "Her Name is Chef". Alex's current project is a deeply personal study that has been in the works for over two years. In addition to "The Other Italian Americans", she has two documentaries in early development, slated for pre-production in late 2026 and 2027.
