The City College of New York
We begin with an opening reception—a chance to gather, connect, and welcome filmmakers, artists, partners, and community members into this year's festival.
At 7:30 PM, we turn to Brooklyn and two films examining the struggles of working-class and immigrant communities to claim power over their labor and the places they call home.
Domsey on Strike (Domsey an Grèv) — 28 min.
A rarely told history of predominantly Haitian immigrant workers who organized against exploitation at Brooklyn's Domsey International textile factory.
The Ones Who Bought Bushwick — 22:30 min.
Created by youth filmmakers at Educational Video Center, the film explores gentrification, displacement, development, and who gets to determine a neighborhood's future.
Following the films, stay with us for a Q&A and conversation with the artists, as we reflect on labor, housing, migration, community power, and the histories of resistance embedded within New York City.
