The Ones We Love(d): A Village Grief Ceremony
Saturday, March 14th- 5pm - 8pm
Poetry Yurt on the Commons - 675 North Road, Gabriola
Grieving in community is a healing practice found across cultures, which has all but been extinguished in recent centuries by colonization, religious imposition, and modernization. We desire to bring back our right to grieve deeply, wildly, unapologetically and safely. In this gathering, we will participate in grieving rituals and practices to explore and normalize our individual and collective grief.
*In this ceremony, we will focus on the First Gate of Grief, as outlined by Francis Weller: Everything you love you will lose.*
This may be the gathering for you if:
• You seek a supportive place to allow yourself to explore your grief.
• You’re navigating grief after losing a person or people you love(d)
• You are sensing the depth of the grief you may experience when you eventually do lose those that you love, or when those you love will lose you

Personal grief varies and can include loss of loved ones, lost opportunities, loss of parts of our natural world, as well as the ancestral grief that most of us carry.
We invite you to join us as we remember together what it truly is to grieve, as is our human birthright.

*Important Note* We ask that you please attend this gathering in a state of sobriety for the wellbeing of the group. If you arrive intoxicated, we will kindly ask you to leave.

*Facilitators:
Leslie Sanderson – Registered Clinical Counsellor and
Kristin Allan-Certified Life Coach, Ceremonialist

*What to bring with you:
• comfy cushion and blanket or a folding chair (we have basic folding chairs available)
• clothing layers, as the temperature in the yurt may fluctuate
• water bottle/tea travel mug
• a personal comfort item (something small that brings you a feeling of comfort and safety)
• journal and a pen (if this is something you use)
• small item/photo for the altar that you will take back home with you

*Fee: $50 per person
Sliding-scale spaces are available at $40 and $30 if finances do not allow you to pay the full fee.
If you’re able, an additional $10, helps make this gathering financially accessible to others.
Only you will know the amount that is right for you.
*Please send your e-transfer to [email protected] with event name and full names of all attendees*
*Seats are limited to 20 attendees. E-transfer receipt is required to secure your spot. Registration closes on Friday, March 13th.
