Where Legacy Meets New Voices
Join us this summer on July 14, July 28, August 11, and August 25, from 1:30–2:30 PM, on the front steps of Third World Press Foundation—one of the nation's oldest independent Black literary and publishing institutions.
The Next Word @TWPF is an open mic welcoming readers, writers, and listeners of all experience levels. Readers are invited to share their original work. All literary genres are welcome.
Every gathering follows a simple tradition: The Opening Word, The Next Word, and The Last Word.
Every gathering follows a simple tradition: The Opening Word, The Next Word, and The Last Word. We begin and conclude with readings from the Third World Press collection before turning the microphone over to the community.
We launch this inaugural summer series with selections from Blacks, first published in 1987 by Third World Press.

Readers may sign up upon arrival. We will do our best to ensure everyone who signs up has an opportunity to participate.

Admission is free, and registration is encouraged.
Donations are appreciated and help support the literary, educational, and cultural work of Third World Press Foundation.
Before the Open Mic
Arrive early or stay after for Tours at the Press. Separate registration is available.
This event will be held outdoors, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors.
Whether you come to read, listen, or discover something new, we invite you to help write The Next Word.
