About this Event

Curious about open water swimming but not sure where to start? Join photographer, writer and storyteller Fiona Basile for an inspiring conversation about community, belonging and the surprising ways people find connection through the water.

Drawing from her acclaimed photo book The Next Wave, Fiona will share her journey into open water swimming and the stories behind the swimmers she has photographed and interviewed. Through images, storytelling and audiovisual excerpts, Fiona explores the themes at the heart of her work: connection, resilience, wellbeing, and the communities that help us thrive.

Following the presentation, stay for a panel discussion featuring Fiona, Andrea from the Williamstown Jellies, and an open water swimmer featured in The Next Wave. Together, they'll share their experiences of getting started, overcoming common fears and challenges, and finding friendship and support through open water swimming.

As part of Mental Health Month, discover how open water swimming can foster wellbeing, connection and a sense of belonging, both in and out of the water.

Copies of The Next Wave and Immerse will be available for purchase and signing following the event.

Bookings close at 4pm on day of session.
