Dr. Chrissy Hernandez is a writer, organizer, and educator from Salinas / Prunedale. After working as a spoken-word teaching artist for over a decade in a Bay Area continuation high school, public arts high school, juvenile hall, middle school, and other community sites, she is now an associate professor of service learning and social action at California State University, Monterey Bay. Her scholarship is invested in the spaces of possibility when bridging abolition feminism and education justice, and has been published in Teachers College Record, Multicultural Perspectives, and the Handbook of Critical Approaches to Policy and Practice with Routledge. She is the managing editor of Lessons in Liberation: An Abolitionist Toolkit for Educators with AK Press.

Brandi Kary is a mom, educator, coach, and poet who lives in Monterey. She teaches English and Creative Writing at Monterey Peninsula College. She has a lot of formal education and a bunch of degrees and certifications, but none of that compares to what her students have taught her over the years. Her poetry has appeared in Wayne Literary Review, Rue Scribe, Virga Magazine, Red River Review, the Voices Project, Blue Pepper, Dead Snakes, and Homestead Review. Aside from loving words, Brandi loves to lift heavy things. She’s a competitive powerlifter, and currently holds state, national, and world records for benchpress and deadlift.
