The Millennium Game-Jam (18-30)

The Event:

Looking to put your games development skills to the test, to meet other games creatives, or simply looking to dip your toes into the field for the first time? A Game-Jam is a great place to start!

This is Game Dev Cardiff's second collaborative event with the Creative Learning Team at the iconic Wales Millennium Centre, a weekend long game creation event aimed at those between the ages of 18-30.

What is a Game-Jam? A Game-Jam is a fast-paced video game development event in which participants will gather and work together to make a game in a short space of time, in this case only 48hrs based on a theme announced at the start.

What do you need to bring?

If you're planning on making a digital game, you will need to bring your own computer. Power and internet will be provided. Alternatively you can make a physical board/card/tabletop game if you don't have the equipment otherwise. Besides that, a positive attitude, a creative mindset, and the willingness to work with participants you may have just met.

The Venue:

We are being graciously hosted by the Wales Millennium Centre at the "Stiwido Scratch" space located on the ground floor on the far right hand side of the main public space of the WMC. While the venue does have security, participants are to remain responsible for their own equipment at all times. While we will be providing pizza on the first night, and some snacks throughout the weekend, the Millennium Centre is in the heart of Cardiff Bay so if you need a breather, or a bite to eat, there are plenty of options nearby.

The Schedule:

Friday

16:30 - Gather at the venue, meet other participants, get yourself set up for the weekend.

17:00 - Ice Breakers and theme announcement

17:30 - Idea sharing and team forming

19:00 - Free pizza!

19:00 - 23:00 - Game making

Saturday

10:00 - 23:00 - Game making

Sunday

10:00 - 17:00 - Frantic game making

17:00 - Games showcase and reflection
