One of the most powerful and visually striking moments of the Marbat Utsav is the Milan — the meeting of the Kali and Pili Marbat effigies from different parts of the city. This walk takes you right into the heart of this energetic convergence, where processions from central, northern, and eastern Nagpur come face to face in a charged atmosphere of sound, satire, and solidarity. Amid pounding dhols, slogans, DJ beats, and cheering crowds, these towering effigies — each carrying a voice of the people — meet in a moment that is both symbolic and emotional. The Milan is not just a spectacle; it is a gathering of neighbourhood identities, shared frustrations, and unspoken critiques — all expressed through the language of folk art. In this walk, we explore how this ritualised meeting has evolved, what it represents for each locality, and why this dramatic moment remains one of the most anticipated in the Marbat Utsav. Led by Rahul Jambhulkar, a PhD scholar in Sociology at IIT Bombay. Since 2021, he has been researching the Marbat-Badgya Utsav of Nagpur and is now close to submitting his thesis. Before joining IIT Bombay, he worked as a researcher with well-known institutions in India for over five years. He has also published research papers in reputed journals both in India and abroad.
