As dusk falls, the final act of the Marbat Utsav begins — the burning of the effigy. This walk brings you to the powerful moment when the Kali Marbat, having passed through the streets carrying the voice of the people, is set to flames. This isn’t just a ritual; it’s a release — of anger, humour, protest, and unspoken frustrations. The burning of the Marbat is a symbolic gesture where the community expresses its stand against social evils, injustice, or everyday wrongs, using fire as a form of resolution. While each locality may burn its effigy separately, the act resonates across the city, uniting people through a shared sentiment.

Led by Rahul Jambhulkar, a PhD scholar in Sociology at IIT Bombay. Since 2021, he has been researching the Marbat-Badgya Utsav of Nagpur and is now close to submitting his thesis. Before joining IIT Bombay, he worked as a researcher with well-known institutions in India for over five years. He has also published research papers in reputed journals both in India and abroad.
