In honour of Migratory Bird Day, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program will be hosting a free film screening of the documentary The Messenger (aka Songbird SOS) in partnership with Grasslands Naturalists and the Medicine Hat Public Library. “The Messenger is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the people working to turn the tide. This visually thrilling film reveals how the issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet”. This free event starts at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 9th, at the library and will include information about local opportunities to support birds like the Spring Bird Count, the Bird Friendly City Initiative, and a chance to pick up the newly-updated bird checklist for southeastern Alberta. Registration is not required for this family-friendly event. The Grasslands Naturalists will also be hosting a free guided bird walk earlier in the day, meeting at Police Point Park at 8:30 am.
