At the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture
Experience THE MECCA, a heartfelt coming-of-age short film that follows an awkward Black teenager transitioning from a predominantly white prep school to life at a prestigious HBCU. As he navigates his new environment, he discovers both love and a deeper understanding of himself.
Following the screening, enjoy a talkback with director Tevin Scott and John Burton, Jr., filmmaker and board member of the Independent Picture House.
The evening will open with a special performance by the John C. Smith University Pep Band, directed by Dr. Tomisha Brock.
This event is proudly presented in collaboration with the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, the Independent Picture House, and the Charlotte International Arts Festival.
