The Magic of Bogs
About this Event
Join us at the York shop to step into a world of magic and beauty as Anna Chilvers and Clare Shaw - creators of The Book of Bogs - guide you through moors, bogs and other peatlands.
Solid and liquid, living and dead, these are uniquely atmospheric places where the barrier between worlds is said to be at its thinnest.
The event will blend science and poetry, folklore and ecology, we'll explore their vital role in carbon sequestration; the habitat they offer for astonishing life forms and red-listed species; and the role that literature can play in protecting these threatened ecosystems. Sink deep into their soft, dark magic with us!
Anna Chilvers (Bluemoose) and Clare Shaw (Bloodaxe) are popular writers and facilitators who have authored and edited 14 books between them - including novels, poetry and creative non-fiction. In 2025, they created The Book of Bogs, published by Little Toller, and featuring over 40 leading writers of ecology, nature and place.
Tickets are £10 and you are welcome to join us from 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start.
