A Haunted Halloween Reading from Carole Bromley’s 'Ghosts and Ginnels'

Join us with award-winning poet Carole Bromley for a ghoulish reading from her new book, Ghosts and Ginnels. Explore through words the hidden passages, ancient alleyways and atmospheric corners of York that inspired her new book, Ghosts and Ginnels. She will be joined with poetry readings from Word Up's wonderful Nicky Kippax and Charlotte Oliver.
Carole Bromley has lived in York for fifty years and knows its ghosts and ginnels well! She has published three poetry collections for adults and one for children and is widely published in magazines and anthologies. She has won a number of prizes, including the Bridport Prize and the Caterpillar Prize for children’s poetry.
Nicky Kippax is a poet from York. She is a Northern Writers' Award winner (2022), a Word Up North New Northern Poet (2026) and her work is widely published - most recently in The London Magazine, Poetry Oxford, PN Review, The Rialto and The Poetry Society newspaper. She has been shortlisted for The Brotherton Prize, The Bridport Prize, The Ginkgo Prize for Best Single Poem (written). Nicky co-hosts Rise Up! - a celebration of poetry and the spoken word - and is editing her first collection.
Charlotte Oliver writes poetry for adults and children. A Word Up North New Northern Poet and one of The Poetry Society's 'Poets in Schools', she is the East Riding Poet Laureate. Charlotte's first full collection Nothing Happens but Everything Happens comes out with Valley Press in October 2026.
