Grindstone proudly supports Kathleen McGee, who has played a pivotal role in the foundation of the Grindstone Comedy Festival. Kathleen was passionate about creating a festival that gives local and up-and-coming comedians a platform, so she came to Grindstone Theatre Society with her idea and together they started the first annual GCF in 2019. Kathleen's knowledge of the community has continually guided the Grindstone in the search of talent, providing opportunities for up and comers to reach a new level in their careers, and to show off our best Canadian talents to Edmonton audiences.Kathleen's journey with cancer has been a rollercoaster of resilience and determination. After initially overcoming colon cancer in December 2022, she faced a recurrence that spread to her liver, abdomen, and lungs. Despite the challenges, Kathleen continues to share her unapologetic and dark sense of humour with audiences worldwide.
The fundraiser aims to raise funds to fulfill Kathleen's bucket list wishes and provide her with comfort during her battle with cancer. Headlined by Kids In The Hall's Bruce McCulloch, who is not only a featured performer but also actively involved in organizing the event, the fundraiser promises to be a heartwarming and hilarious evening in support of a beloved member of the comedy community.

Kathleen McGee's impressive comedic resume includes appearances at Just for Laughs, CBC Debaters, and SiriusXM Top Comic, among others. She hosts her own popular podcast, "Kathleen McGee Is A Hot Mess," and co-hosts the "Dead Baby Bear" podcast. Kathleen McGee is a Canadian stand-up comedian from Edmonton, Alberta. Her performance at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival was nominated for a 2019 Canadian Comedy Award. Her debut full-length album, 2019's Deliciously Vulgar, was produced by Grammy winner Dan Schlissel for his label Stand Up! Records. With her unique style and undeniable talent, Kathleen has earned a dedicated following and the admiration of her peers.

PERFORMER BIOS
Bruce McCulloch
BRUCE MCCULLOCH, AN ALBERTAN PUNK AND SON OF A SALESMAN,…grew up playing hockey, listening to rock music and fist-fighting cowboys. He took business at Mount Royal College and when he predictably got 20% he segued to journalism and started writing funny stories. He soon found himself at Loose Moose Theatre: home of theatre sports (competitive improv), where he met Mark McKinney, and his future was set. They started writing and performing together, later moving to Toronto to “make it.” In Toronto, he and Mark found the other members of The Kids in the Hall, and Bruce built the foundations for a career spanning television, theatre, and film.
In television, Bruce has written and performed in Young Drunk Punk (a series inspired by his own life), Death Comes to Town, and This Blows (web series) all for CBC, and he also created Carpoolers for ABC. He has directed such shows as SNL (on which wh was also a writer), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Schitt’s Creek, and Trailer Park Boys. Most recently, Bruce directed and produced three seasons of the sketch series, TallBoyz, for CBC. He also wrote and starred in a new season of the Kids in the Hall for Amazon in 2022.
As an actor, he has appeared in numerous Canadian and American television shows such as Saturday Night Live, Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Comedy Bang Bang, Workaholics, Nobodies, and even Anne of Green Gables.
Bruce has written or performed several one-man shows including Two-Headed Roommate, Jazz Stenographers, Slightly Bigger, and is currently performing his fourth show Tales of Bravery & Stupidity. He has two spoken word/comedy/music CDs: Shame-based Man and The Drunk Baby Project.Tales will be the basis for his next book. His first book, Let's Start a Riot was released by Harper Collins. Bruce has also contributed to The Moth and has written for The New York Times and Huffington Post.
Bruce has also written and/or directed several films including Dog Park starring Luke Wilson, Superstar starring Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell, Stealing Harvard starring Jason Lee, Leslie Mann and Tom Green, and Comeback Season starring Ray Liotta.
Debra DiGiovanni
Debra DiGiovanni is a stand-up comedian and performer originally from Toronto, now based in Los Angeles. Debra can be seen around the world appearing in comedy festivals like Moontower, High Plains, JFL Sydney, and JFL Montreal. Debra also hosts the hugely popular podcast Killing Time w/ Debra & Zach, and her second comedy album Lady Jazz was nominated for a Juno award: Comedy Album of the Year 2019. Debra has also performed stand-up on CONAN, Comedy Central’s Stand Up Featuring, and Season 2 of Unprotected Sets for Epix.

Clare Belford

Clare Belford is a comedian and a very nice person. Hailing from northern Alberta,she cut her teeth early on by forcibly telling deeply personal jokes about womanhood to drunk tradesmen. Nowadays she is a veritable fixture of Canadian comedy.
Clare has performed at festivals like Just For Laughs, the New York ComedyFestival, the Halifax Comedy Festival and she appears on CBC’s New Wave of Stand Up. She writes for This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and her debut album, The Entire Cabbage, plays regularly on SiriusXM, and was named one of the Best of 2021 by Bullseye on NPR.

Sean Lecomber
Sean Lecomber has gained a lot of recognition for his talent. He’s appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, filmed the Just for Laughs galas in 2013 and 2020 and was the 2007 winner of the Just for Laughs homegrown competition.He’s made three appearances at the Halifax Comedy Festival, two appearances at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and was a writer for This Hour has 22 Minutes. He is a two-tme Canadian Comedy Award nominee and has also been on XM Radio and CBC’s radio show The Debaters.

A high-energy performer and audience favourite, Sterling’s material stems from his experiences with relationships, family, being a father, current events, his out look on life and the world, and those awkward moments that people from all walks of life can relate to. Sterling has traveled all across Canada the U.S. and even overseas with notable performances as champion of the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2019, gala performances at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and performing for the troops in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Dubai. As a writer and actor Sterling has appeared on the television show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and recently sold a show to Kevin Hart’s LOL Network!
