Join us as we journey down Church Street, Market Street, Currants Lane, and Dovercourt High Street, reimagining the once-bustling markets and vibrant shopfronts.
We’ll trace centuries of retail evolution, and explore how the town’s iconic shops—and the shopkeepers behind them—shaped community identity and fuelled the local economy before supermarkets arrived.
Along the way, we’ll examine how national innovations—from glass-fronted Georgian arcades and fixed pricing to cash registers and Victorian department stores— transformed local retail forever.
