About this Event
In partnership with Georgia Humanities, Hillside presents an in-person panel discussion about The Loneliness Epidemic on Friday, June 5th from 8:30–9:30 a.m.
Across the country, more children and adolescents are reporting feelings of loneliness, disconnection, and a lack of belonging. Loneliness is not simply about being alone. It is the experience of not feeling seen, understood, or connected, even when others are present.
At the same time, caregivers, especially those supporting adolescents with mental health challenges, often experience their own form of loneliness, feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure where to turn for support.
What this panel will discuss:
- What is driving the rise in loneliness among children, adolescents, and society at large
- How loneliness shows up in young people, including its connection to shame, withdrawal, and isolation
- The often-overlooked loneliness experienced by caregivers
- Practical, DBT-informed strategies to help young people build connections and tolerate social discomfort
- How caregivers can respond in ways that strengthen relationships while staying supported themselves
Join us for a thoughtful and practical conversation focused on connection, understanding, and the shared human need to feel seen and valued.
