Participants will learn about reading landscape through land forms, built environment and plant cover, roots' rhizospheres and attendant microbial communities, the roles of fungi in decomposition, the roles of mycorrhizae with their plant allies, as well as myriad compost technologies and soil amendments.
This course is for land stewards, activists, backyard and community gardeners, activists, farmers and those curious about the soils and land around them.
The course is a combination of guided independent field work, beautiful instructive films and 12.5 hours of online class time. Participants should be prepared to do 2 hours of independent field work/week.
The Life of Soil is one of four core courses of The Soil Keepers Certified Training in applied soil science. Upon completion of the course and fieldwork, participants will receive a certificate of completion. Completion of this course can be applied towards the longer Soil Keepers Training Certification.
