Join us for Heartland Counseling Services’ Legacy Gala—an evening dedicated to Honoring Service. Healing Heroes.
This year, we recognize the courage and sacrifice of our veterans while shining a light on the importance of mental health support beyond the uniform. Together, we’ll celebrate stories of strength, resilience, and recovery. Every dollar raised will ensure those who have served our country and their families have access to the care they deserve.
We will also be honoring the following individuals at our event:
Judge John Ackerman- Kermit Dahlen Award: Dedication to Substance Use
Dr. Rodney Dean- Dr. Stanley Reiss Dedication to Mental Health Award
Jim Miller- Rebecca Eckhardt Award: Mental Health Advocacy
Connie Spain & Verna Welte: Virginia Cochran Award: Distinguished Clinician
We'll also have Jake Norotsky from the Wounded Warrior Project join us as our Keynote Speaker. Jake grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, the son of a Vietnam veteran and pastor. He’d always been interested in music, but when his father died by suicide while he was in tenth grade, Jake was pulled to follow a different path.
In the Army, during his second deployment to Iraq in 2007, Jake was the crew chief on a Blackhawk helicopter, flying almost a thousand hours during that tour and seeing combat day after day. When Jake returned home, he knew things weren’t right. The fast-paced environment and constant strain of helicopter flight had taken their toll on his body — and the things he saw had taken a toll on his mind. Now, he’s using his powerful story to connect with and challenge audiences around the nation. “My dad led me to a life of service all those years ago,” says Jake, “and I’m finally exactly where I need to be.”
From service to civilian life, the journey doesn’t end—and neither should the support. Be part of a night that honors the past, supports the present, and builds hope for the future.
