THE LAST THURSDAY LUNCH CLUB 30 OCT WITH TV MEDAL EXPERT MARK SMITH

Summer now at an end, in the lead up to Armistice Day, The Last Thursday Lunch Club returns once again, opening its doors for lunch at 1pm on Thursday 30th October to welcome TV medals and militaria expert, Mark Smith to St Mary's Church, Blandford St Mary.

Mark's talk, "Boots, Medals & Valour - Tales from Life", starts at 1.45pm.

A respected military historian and a much sought after battlefield guide, Mark is a master story teller who brings the past alive, capturing moments of yesteryear with characteristic sensitivity and passion reinforced by an in depth knowledge, understanding and command of the prevailing historical narrative at the time.

Mark, who has been captivating audiences on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow since 2014, started collecting medals in 1969; he is acknowledged as a leading authority on the Victoria Cross.

"Boots, Medals and Valour", draws on a wealth of Mark's rich and varied anecdotes, from personal possessions of great sentimental value to exceptional medals and their remarkable stories that he has encountered over the years and little known insights of selfless acts of valour, courage and bravery in war. The talk will conclude with Q&A.
