About this Event
Dying Without Fear: A Screening of The Last Ecstatic Days
With Dr. Aditi Sethi, followed by a conversation with Mirabai Starr and Carmen Acevedo Butcher
What if we could meet death the way we hope to meet life: awake, held, and unafraid?
The Last Ecstatic Days follows Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer who began sharing his dying openly with the world. His hope was to teach others how to die without fear. His hospice physician, Dr. Aditi Sethi, brought him to a quiet house in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, where a circle of strangers became a community of care and walked with him to his final breath.
Aditi joins us to share the film and the story behind it. Afterward, Mirabai Starr and Carmen Acevedo Butcher join her for a conversation about grief, mystery, and the courage it takes to stay present at the threshold. Together they'll explore what the mystics and the dying can teach us about loosening our grip on certainty and trusting the unknown.
This is an evening to feel deeply, to wonder, and to remember that none of us has to face the great unknowing alone. Please note, this film portrays the end of life with tenderness and honesty.
