What will you cover in this workshop
This is a great course to enrol into if you are wanting to learn different techniques of making lampshades. This course will equip you with all the skills you need to be able to make drum, gathered and traditional soft lampshades. We will begin with learning how to make a drum shade,.. Will will also explore how to make them unique with fabrics or trims. We will then move on to learn traditional techniques of binding lampshades, cutting patterns and sewing and fitting fabrics. You will be creating your own traditional soft lampshade and a gathered lampshade, creating your own bias binding or using trims to finish you lampshades.
The course will run over 6 weeks, 2.5 hours per week., from the 9th January 2025 6pm to 8.30pm each week.
What is included in this course?
You will go home from this course with 3 finished lampshades along with a training booklet and a starter kit of useful items for making lampshades. We will have time to explore safety measures when making, professional finishes and how to price your lampshades if you choose to sell them.
For this course we will provide you with the frames and many of the components to start you off in your lampshade making journey.
What do I need to bring on the course?
We do ask that you bring with you fabric, you will be contacted before the course to discuss the particulars.
Other things you need to know
All workshops are run at LilyBoo, Lostwithiel on the upstairs floor. There is a steep flight of stairs up to the workshop area but once there you will have everything you need, from a small kitchen for tea and coffee along with a bathroom. The workshops at LilyBoo have bought together people for a chat, to learn something new and there is always lots of laughter.
